International film festival “Baltic Wave”

2010 august 23 – 29 in culture and tourism information center of Nida “Agila” (Taikos str. 4, Neringa).

 

It is first and till now the only one film festival of three Baltic countries which has grown up with a new quality from Lithuanian film festival “Lietuviški kadrai Nidoje” (“Lithuanian frames in Nida”) which has been taking place in Nida for two years. There were represented films of Lithuanian authors of various genres and periods, organized educational programs; it was possible to hear soundtracks from the movies played live and also there was created children’s and youth’s animated cartoon “1000 kadrų Nidoje” (“1000 frames in Nida”). This Festival also was visited by the famous authors of Lithuanian movies.

In 2009, celebrating twenty years anniversary of the Baltic way Baltic prime ministers came in Nida.

Creative cooperation of these countries in art gives the meaning to the overall historical context, experience and new discoveries. After the meeting with prime ministers the president of Lithuanian Filmmakers Union, film director Gytis Lukšas proposed the idea of extending the concept of the Festival and the program of films and invite filmmakers from Latvia and Estonia to Nida to represent their works.

This year to the Festival in Nida are coming: the director of Estonian Filmmakers Union Erika Laansalu and president of Latvian Filmmakers Union Ieva Romanova who will represent film programs of their countries. Film program from Lithuania will be represented by National award winner Arūnas Matelis. It is expected to see there the character from one Lithuanian documentary – Benas Šarka too. Also in this Festival animated cartoons from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia for children will be shown.

One part of this Festival is workshop of animated cartoons „Baltija jungia“ („Baltic unites“) that will take place in Palanga, Klaipėda and Nida. It will be lead by famous Lithuanian animators Jūratė Leikaitė, Ilja Bereznickas, Valentas Aiškinis. The product which will be created together with participants will be presented on festival closing day in Nida (29th of August).

The head of the Festival is the president of the Lithuanian Filmmakers Union, film director Gytis Lukšas.
