Traditional Events 2007

17-20 of May. Neringa summer season opening festival. This is a traditional event taking place every year, which has performers of various music genre from different towns of Lithuania participating in it, exhibitions demonstrated, various actions organized.

 

A considerable number of folklore music ensembles and national masters from Lithuania and foreign countries is participating in the festival. This event became one of the most significant events of the town’s culture.

14-21 of July. International festival of Thomas Mann.

Festival’s concerts, art exhibitions, literature afternoons, and movie sessions are taking place in various places of Nida settlement. This is one of the biggest and famous cultural events of summer season in Neringa, which has its own audience both in Lithuania and abroad.

20-21 of July. Fisherman’s festival.

Fishing is a traditional business of inhabitants of the Curonian Spit and one of the main sources of living. The purpose of the fisherman’s festival is to remember and honour the local inhabitants, who practise business fishing.

The concerts planned in the events’ program include the performances of the most famous chamber music performers from Lithuania and other countries of the Baltic Sea region. Concerts are taking place in Evangelical Lutheran churches of Juodkrante and Nida.

July - August. Opera and symphonic music festival "Musical August on the coast". Music performances included into the program of the festival are shown in various places of Neringa.

17-18 of August. "Prie-historical and Earlier Middle Age Handicraft Days in Neringa".

This event includes the participation of Lithuanian museologists and archeologists, who demonstrate the own reproduced wares of Prie-historical and Earlier Middle Age Handicraft of various Lithuanian ethnographic regions to the local people and guests of the town; performances of folklore ensembles are taking place on the open air.

 

The events planned in the event’s program are taking place in all educational and culture institutions of the town, final concert of Neringa’s art groups take place in Nida Culture and Tourism Information Center "Agila".

 

This event includes the process of spectacular set of the town’s Christmas tree, meeting the Santa Claus, traditional Christmas concerts, afternoons for children with Santa Claus. On December 31, the hall of Nida Culture and Tourism Information Center "Agila" has a traditional concert of popular classic taking place in it, and the Municipality Square has dance music groups concert for youth. The event is crowned by impressive fireworks and night disco. January the first also receives a considerable attention from the tourists: traditional bouillabaisse cooking and its tasting, as well as other entertainments, are organized at the Municipality Sqaure. Hotels, questhouses and rest-houses, cafes, bars, and restaurants offer various forms of spending Christmas and New Year.
