Preila School was the third largest in the part of the Curonian Spit which went to Lithuania. Its history began in 1849 when the sandbound Nagliu School has been moved to Preila. The school was established in a small fisherman type building. In 1857, according to the data of Klaipeda region schools statistics, there were 26 schoolchildren in Preila. Upon the growth of number of schoolchildren, the school building was expanded in 1885. The teacher Robert Petroschka who then was working there has described rather unusual episodes of school life. In 1937, there was one grade at Preila School. Teaching was in German. One teacher who worked there taught 43 students.
