Neringa has been commonly known as the place for those looking to find inspiration and serenity that reawakens talents and creative spirit. Such aim was alive in writer, playwright and translator Viktoras Miliūnas, who lived in Nida from 1961 to 1986.
One of the first prominent Lithuanian intellectuals to have moved to Neringa, Miliūnas quickly spread the love of Nida to others: many writers, theatre personas and artists followed him. Until the official Writers’ Home was built on the Hill of Urbas, his Nida home was the unofficial abode for the many cultural visitors.
The writer spent the most productive and significant years of his writing career in Nida: he published over 10 works during his Neringa years. Almost all of the writer's creations featured real and made up lives of the Curonian people: from love and family affairs to humorous and dramatic work and life stories.
In 1990 his close friend sculptor Eduardas Jonušas unveiled a memorial board marking writer’s house in Kuverto street.
