Various immersive programmes organised by the several museums of Neringa are some of the most intriguing and fun ways to learn about the history and cultural heritage of the Curonian Spit. Take your pick: learn to make a fishing net, cut out a model of krikštas, open up your creative side with a nature collage or take part in a historical charade. Suitable for all ages and abilities.
The educational programmes include:
- “The Tail of a Wind Vane”: this iconic symbol of Neringa tells stories of the many traditions, development and use of the wind vane; visitors colour their own souvenir wind vane.
- “Krikštai – the Trees of the World”: a workshop to delve deeper into the mythological world of the unique tomb memorials of Neringa and their sacred meanings. Participants make a model of kirkštas.
- “Historical charades about Thomas Mann”: explore the life and work of Nida’s most famous resident.
- “Historical charades about the lagoon fishermen”: a closer look into the everyday life, traditions and struggles of the lagoon fishermen and their families.
- “Little Crow, Where Are You?”: the workshop introduces visitors to the unusual pastime of crow hunting in the Curonian Spit. Make your own souvenir crow from plasticine.
- “Meškeris”: a fun workshop that tells a tale of the fishermen, including an old children’s game of “Meškeris” a chance to craft your own fisherman’s pendant or bracelet.
- “The lighthouse of Nida”: find out all about the history of the local lighthouses and colour in your own lighthouse of Nida.
- “The cultural landscape of the Curonian Spit”: visit the three different parts of Neringa’s museums and immerse yourself in the dramatic life of the past on this unique peninsula.
- Educational excursion “Through the Paths of Nida’s Art Colony”: indulge your curious side with a story of why Nida is so dear to many local and foreign artists.
