Both the Baltic sea and the Curonian Lagoon are perfectly suited to recreational fishing. Catch a fishing boat and find yourself a spinning, trolling or casting rod for a peaceful leisure time on the water. All season fishing is permitted, with April to June and August to October being the most popular months. You can expect to catch bream, perch, zool and zander.
An unforgettable winter experience is ice-fishing zool and smelt. Spring and autumn’s popular catch in the Baltic Sea is salmon, plaice, halibut, sprat, cod and sea trout.
Make sure to buy a permit for amateur fishing, which is a special government approved document allowing amateur fishing in all bodies of water without a special conservation status. Permits are available in newsagents (“Narvesen”), supermarkets and shops (“Maxima”, “Perlas”), and online (ALIS - you will need the help of a Lithuanian citizen to purchase it online, entering your date of birth instead of the personal identification number). Foreigners can also purchase the permits in “Perlas” terminal points in person.
Amateur fishing is free for under 16s, disabled people and senior citizens.
